Sleepy Con Dios!!
The QueenPrincess Says... |

So, you see, there just hasn't been time to write. Well... there's the cooking and there's also the either sleeping too much or not sleeping at all. Last week, I think I slept for ten hours every single night. This week, um... what day is it? Thursday? No Friday! I think I slept a little bit on Monday night. And I'm sort of bored about writing about death and being sad. Apparently, I'm not bored of being sad because I'm sad all day long -- just bored of talking about it at length. So, you get pictures of food instead. And don't worry -- did watch This Is The End this week and laughed harder than I've laughed in months. That movie is almost as absurd as the fifty pounds of organic meats I have in my freezer. Of course, if we're considering the original conceit of MoJo's Kitchen wherein my mother and I are somehow cosmically, mystically bound up in our cooking and kitcheny-ness together, I have to say -- she is in her glory. Meat was the beginning of every Ramona meal. She is laughing at me trying to figure out how to cook English Roast and Spare Ribs and Real Bacon. We ate REAL BACON three times in the last two weeks!! And, Mo was licking her chops. I desperately wanted to make "smalec" -- it's a spread made from bacon grease and onions that I had on toast once in Poland but my husband stepped into the kitchen and drew the line. He didn't understand how one could call that a "food." Mo kept urging me forward but the longer the grease whitened and hardened, the weaker my resolve became. Our next CSA Meat Drop-off is at the beginning of December -- we're all out of real bacon until then -- perhaps I'll make smalec as part of a holiday feast. Think I could bring that to the work holiday luncheon? Oh, they'd eat it. Let me tell you a secret about people who work in offices -- we eat anything that's free, even flavored bacon grease disguised as a dip. Good grief. I need sleep people.
